An Easter Message

I delivered the following brief testimony in a sacrament meeting of the Hill Park ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, held in the Stone Church, Community of Christ, Independence, Missouri, March 31, 2024.

As we search the holy scriptures, we are touched by the testimonies given of Jesus Christ.

Clear teachings from God's chosen messengers show us that Prophets and Apostles have "[no] other object" than to "talk of Christ … rejoice in Christ … preach of Christ … prophesy of Christ, and [to] write according to [their] prophecies, that [all] may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins" and for everlasting peace, even a fullness of joy. (2 Nephi 2: 30; 25: 26)

Indeed, "none of the prophets have written, nor prophesied, save they have spoken concerning this Christ." (Jacob 7: 11)

Hear these words, from one of Jesus’s apostolic witnesses, spoken in 1985:

"And now, as pertaining to this perfect atonement, wrought by the shedding of the blood of God—I testify that it took place in Gethsemane and at Golgotha, and as pertaining to Jesus Christ, I testify that he is the Son of the Living God [who] was crucified for the sins of the world. He is our Lord, our God, and our King. This I know of myself independent of any other person.

I am one of his witnesses, and in a coming day I shall feel the nail marks in his hands and in his feet and shall wet his feet with my tears.

But I shall not know any better then than I know now that he is God’s Almighty Son, that he is our Savior and Redeemer, and that salvation comes in and through his atoning blood and in no other way.

God grant that all of us may walk in the light as God our Father is in the light so that, according to the promises, the blood of Jesus Christ his Son will cleanse us from all sin."

Bruce R. McConkie

In our own time we have again heard the prophetic word regarding the Son of God, His great atoning sacrifice, and His living reality.

The prophet Joseph Smith declared:

"And now, after the many testimonies which have been given of him, this is the testimony, last of all, which [I] give of him: That he lives!

For [I] saw him, even on the right hand of God; and [I] heard the voice bearing record that he is the Only Begotten of the Father"
