In the Service of Your God

Do you want greater evidence that God is at work in your life?

Do you want to pray and see your prayer answered exactly as you ask?

Try this —

Ask God to show you someone who needs your help.

He will speedily answer this prayer. He is waiting for us to ask Him this. Try it!

How closely and inseparably the "Great" commandments are related! (Matthew 22: 36-40; Mark 12: 28-34)

From the film, How Rare a Possession: The Book of Mormon

"How, then, does one best serve God?

"Through hollow ritual, and the recital of rote prayers?

"Near the end of his life, an ancient prophet and king gave the answer—the key—as to how one can best serve God. These are his words:

"'And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God.' (Mosiah 2: 17)

"Serving. Helping one another."

As you go about your Father's business, you will feel His guiding hand lift some of your own weight as you strive to lighten others.

Beyond the love you have for yourself, seek to love others as Jesus loves them. (John 13: 34-35) Have you ever been in a situation where you were given to know exactly how God felt about a person? The purest, most strengthening, encompassing, overwhelming love?

I have.

This is how He feels about you. Choose to believe it.

Put yourself in places where His love needs to go.

Beware of wolves in sheep's clothing, yes. (Matthew 7: 15)

But keep your eye out also for sheep in wolves' clothing.

The outwardly prickly among us may be the most in need of our expressions of the love of God for them. They may be the most ready to accept such powerfully inspiring changes as God's love can motivate. They may be among the ones you were sent to bless.

They might not "look like" they'd be interested or ready. They might not be clean or well-kempt. They might have some dirt on their hands or in their heart.

How can you and I not want to help such people?

"If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.

If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.

These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you."

John 15: 7-14

Experience the presence of God as He walks with you on these errands of service.

Magnifying little opportunities of service by being on the Lord's errand will unfold your mission, and, in turn, your purpose.

Who wouldn't want God to come down in a cloud of light and tell them their unique mission and purpose in life?

First, seek obedience to the things God has commanded all of us to be doing. Your own unique mission will be revealed to you as you faithfully and diligently strive to do what He's already commanded you.

Your personalized guidance is waiting along the path you will walk in common with other disciples of Jesus. You will know all you need by stepping out with faith and continuing on with things you know to be right. You will Hear Him!

If you find yourself encumbered with a paralyzing frenzy of thoughts about your own problems, inadequacies, insecurites, worries, or other self-centering patterns, try this:

"Forget yourself, and go to work." (Bryant S. Hinckley)

Discover and share the pure joy of seeking to be helpful to others.
